Iron pyrite

FeS2

Pyrite is a mineral composed of iron disulfide. It’s very abundant in nature but high-purity sources are very rare. Veneta Mineraria is the leading supplier of high-quality pyrite which we select and process at our production plants in Italy and distribute under the brand name Sulfex. Our products are available in a range of grain sizes, from coarse to finely micronized, to cater for a multitude of industrial needs.

Pyrite is a very versatile industrial mineral that is widely used in tribological applications, where friction, impact and lubrication are major factors. Veneta Mineraria’s finely micronized pyrite is a highly important filler used in the production of resinoid abrasives, discs and grinding wheels. It promotes the adhesion of the grains to the resinoid binder, enhances cutting performance of the new surface of the tool and inhibits oxidation caused by free radicals.
In the automotive sector, it confers consistency and durability to brake pads, regulates and stabilizes the friction coefficient, and prolongs the life of the pad.
Additionally, Veneta Mineraria's products impart the characteristic amber color to container glass (pharmaceutical glass).

In bulk, Veneta Mineraria pyrite is used in the production of free-machining steel and to recycle metallic lead from spent batteries – an excellent example of the circular economy.
